WoW Engineering Guide 1-600
This WoW Engineering Guide details the most efficient method of leveling Engineering from levels 1 to 600 in the World of Warcraft. Engineering is a primary profession (of which you can only choose two at any point in the game) and allows your character to create a variety of items such as guns, bullets, arrows, scopes and more. Engineering complements the Mining profession very well, as Mining can provide many of the raw materials required for Engineering.
Updated for WoW patch 5.2
This guide focuses on making the training path easier by using plans that can be learned from Engineering trainers and plans with the most easily obtained materials.
It also looks to make the items that will prove most cost effective at each stage. Unless stated otherwise, all the plans/schematics used in this guide can be purchased from an Engineering Trainer of appropriate level.

Engineering is a particularly expensive profession as a large number of items go from red to yellow as soon as they become available, that is, there is only a moderate chance of increasing your Engineering level even when crafting an item when it first becomes available. As a result, the number of items you will need to craft to get Engineering levels will be pretty random – Good Luck!
Finally, the majority of items you create with Engineering will require your character to be in possession of a Blacksmith Hammer and in proximity to an anvil.

Dentaa, 80 Warrior, gnome engineer.
My job is stuck at 400. In the “Engineering” window, I have plans niv 400 in yellow, but the “Create” buttons is replaced with a “Tinker” button, which has no effect. I can not even execute the gray plans!
I spent a whole week to look at sites and forums in French and English without finding information about this function “Tinker”.
Thank you to tell me if it’s a bug or tell me where to find an explanation.
Note: The engi 400-450 plans were in TLK before Catalysm!
‘Tinker’ is like an enchant. When you click the ‘Tinker’ button you should get a icon something like a glowing hand. Then click on the item in your inventory that you wish to apply the tinker to.
Gnomish X-Ray Scope only requires 2x Hardened Elementium Bar in addition to the 2x Dream Emerald.
Otherwise a great guide. Used it the whole way. Thank you very much.
Anduinn – Bonechewer
Thanks for catching that! The guide has been updated to reflect correct reagents.
the bronze tube plan does not use weak flux anymore just letting you know
I am stuck at level 522 with nothing left to train and nothing left to level up with. Everything is greyed out. I did not follow this or any guide, just trained and used farmed mats. Any idea of how I can level?
on the Electrostatic Condenser it actually gives 3 levels just to let you know.
