This WoW Leatherworking Guide details the most efficient method of leveling Leatherworking from levels 1 to 450 in the World of Warcraft. Leatherworking is a primary profession that allows your character to create a variety of items such as cloaks and armor. The Skinning profession is usually selected as a complementary skill while leveling Leatherworking, as it can provide many of the raw materials required for Leatherworking. Take a look at our WoW Skinning Guide 1-450 for details on leveling Skinning.
This guide focuses on making leveling Leatherworking as easy and as cheap as possbile by using patterns that can be learned from Leatherworking trainers and patterns that use the fewest and most easily obtained materials.
If a specific trainer or supplier isn’t mentioned for a pattern this means that the pattern should be commonly available from all Leatherworking trainers for the item’s level.

Is there a list or site I can go to to locate where the different types of leathers, hides, and scales and be found?
How about this list on Wowhead, Wowhead – Leather List? If you then follow the link for the leather, hide, scale, etc.. that you’re interested in, you can choose the ‘Skinned from’ tab to determine which mobs are a suitable source.
Uhh ya whats the best specialization for a SV hunter … elemental leatherworking?
Yes! It is generally regarded that the Agility and Stamina bonuses from Elemental Leatherworkng patterns are best for Survival Hunters.
Went to Adele in Goldshire and she did not have light leather recipe. In general, level one recipes seem to be nonexistant in game. Have gone to 4 different trainers so far in Stormwind and Ironforge with no luck.
When you learn Apprentice Leatherworking from a Leatherworking trainer, you should automatically learn the Light Leather recipe at the same time.
I’m having the same problem and am extremely frustrated! I learned Apprentice Leatherworking and cannot see where my Light Leather Recipe is located or how to use it.
I just did this on a new alt to check, and once you learn Apprentice Leatherworking, the Light Leather Recipe is available when you select Leatherworking from your spellbook.
The recipe for Jormungar Leg Armor now requires 12 scales. I hit a wall leveling my skill here while I farmed the scales.
wut good place to farm rugged leather?
winterspring
Winterspring the Yeti. Drop rate is very good.
is tribal or elemental leatherworking for me since im a feral druid
To be quite honest, it doesn’t really matter. The specific training professions are outdated and meant for vanilla and TBC end game BoPs. Its not worth it if you are a Leatherworker. I would know. I wasted my time with it.
166-185 i prefer to create raptor hide belts. Hides are easier to get than heavy hide, which according to this guide, need 25 pieces
Very good info, i however went engineering with my leatherworking so my mats will be costly but had to have that chopper and helecopter!!
Hey Spiph, you will want to update the materials needed for the Wild Draenish Vest and Thick Draenic Vest, to 3 Heavy Knothide Leather and 3 Rune Thread. I went to make some of the Thick Draenic Vests and noticed it was different. Just wanted to pass that along.
Thanks for the heads up. I have corrected this in the guide.
Skill 331-350
lists item Thick Draenic Vest
3 x Knothide Leather
Should read Heavy Knothide Leather.
Wild Draenish Vest has the same problem.
Updated properly this time to show Heavy Knothide Leather.
