This WoW guide (up-to-date for patch 3.3) will cover training your Enchanting levels from 1 to 450 and what to do while leveling Enchanting in World of Warcraft. Enchanting is a primary profession (of which you can only choose two at any point in the game) and allows your character to enchant items and craft wands and oils. Enchanting complements the Tailoring profession very well, as disenchanting certain items that have been crafted with Tailoring can generate useful dusts, essences and shards. This guide focuses on making the training path easier by using enchants that can be learned from Enchanting trainers and enchants with the most easily obtained materials. It also looks to make the items that will prove most cost effective at each stage. Unless stated otherwise, all the formulas used in this guide can be purchased for an Enchanting Trainer of appropriate level.
You might also want to take a look at our Disenchanting guide that details the skill level and character level required to disenchant items of a particular level as well as the item levels that produce each type of dust, essence, shard and crystal.

At skill level 255, I would advice to enchant Enchant Bracer – Greater Intellect Instead. as this only costs 3 lesser
nethereternal essences. This enchant is obtained at the trainerThanks for pointing that one out. I actually did this on a character this morning where I am leveling Enchanting, as I had an abundance of Eternal Essence, but had struggled to get more Nether Essence. I’ve updated the guide to reflect this and a few more options I’ve been using as well.
About how much gold would it take to start from just buying Enchanting to get to 450?
That depends entirely on the economy of the server you are on at the time you are looking for the materials as you can’t buy much from NPCs – you would have to get most mats from the Auction House. Enchanting materials usually sell for more than the items they were disenchanted from, so you could be better off buying cheap green items of the appropriate level and disenchanting them yourself.
It does depend on your server and the prices on the AH… but a ballpark idea is probably thousands of gold. (Just ten skill levels could cost you a hundred, or even hundreds.) It’s already extremely expensive and there are zillions of twinks out there raising demand and prices for materials. And don’t expect to make money with it until you’re already thousands into it, either – this isn’t a profession that pays off until you’re near the top. If you don’t have a huge bank account or an entire guild behind you, stay away.
at 416-420 i used Enchant Boots – Greater Spirit. only cost 10 infinite dust and 1 greater cosmic essence. lost less mats
Excellent guide – Brought my way through it with mats from the AH and following your guide it only took two and one half hours
Dream Dust is only 10-15s a piece on my server, while Lesser Eternals are about 6-7g. I started using Enchant Shield – Greater Stamina at 265 already and saved about 200g by doing that.
Enchant Boots – Greater Spirit remains orange until 420 and costs 4xDust and 2xEssence less than Enchant Bracers – Expertise
Guide now updated to reflect this as the cheapest option
Enchant Cloak – Minor Agility stays orange until 135-140 from 110 which makes it an extremely good formula. And it uses more easily attainable reagents too (1x LAE), at least if you’re a tailor or leveling tailoring alongside enchanting.
Found doing +100 health to chest from 275 – 290 was a lot cheaper for me. Only 2 small radiant shards instead of illusion dust x 6.
sorry messed up and it’s small brillant shards not radiant.
great guide!
make sure you check the AH for ingred prices on your realm, you might find some of the recommended enchants to be more expensive than other options.
e.g. i used to enchant some formulas through yellow since it was cheaper to do them multiple times for each skill up than doing the next red formula once…
excellent guide a lot of things I did not know
Great guide could not find the master trainer amwere and now I know were it’s rinks much:)
For beginning enchanters with high levels, I highly recommend just doing a few low level dungeon runs solo and disenchanting the greens you get. It’s fast and you can use the mats you get on more higher level enchants.
