WoW Cooking Guide 1-450

by Spiph

This WoW guide (up-to-date for patch 3.3) will cover training your Cooking levels from 1 to 450 and what to cook while leveling Cooking in World of Warcraft. Cooking is a secondary profession, which means learning to cook won’t limit what other professions you train your character in. It complements the Fishing profession very well, as most fish can be cooked. Cooking can also increase the beneficial effects gained from eating food, and can provide a modest gold income. Our guide for training Fishing and Cooking from 1 to 450 together is here: Alliance or Horde. This guide focuses on making the training path easier by using recipes that can be learned from Cooking trainers or recipes with the most easily obtained ingredients. No fishing is required for this guide.

If you would like to acquire all the available Cooking recipes for your character or are interested in alternative recipes for any stage of this guide, then please refer to our complete list of Cooking recipes.

This guide also complements the Skinning guide quite well, as many of the beasts you need to kill for Skinning are the same beasts that provide food for Cooking.

Cooking requires 3 components: Food, a recipe and a fire. Food can be purchased from vendors, looted from beasts that have been killed or caught through fishing. Recipes are available to purchase from Cooking trainers and vendors or as quest rewards. You must be standing near an open fire in order to cook something. Cooking trainers usually have an open fire near to them and you can also create your own by selecting the Basic Campfire from the General page of your spell book.

If a specific trainer or supplier isn’t mentioned for a recipe then it means that that recipe should be commonly available from most Cooking trainers or suppliers.

Unless I’m mistaken, there’s a problem with your guide. You say to cook ‘Smoked Desert Dumplings’ from 276-300 but you cannot obtain the quest until your cooking skill is 285.

6 Spiph

Thanks for catching that. I’ve updated the guide to reflect that ‘Smoked Desert Dumplings’ can only start at 285.

This is a great guide, but you left out the fish receipes. One of the biggest buff feasts is the fish feast at 450. I am looking for the low level fish receipes. Please add the fish receipes and it will be great.

There are separate guides available for leveling cooking with fish recipes.
Fishing and Cooking Guide 1-450 (Alliance)
Fishing and Cooking Guide 1-450 (Horde)
Leaving fish out of this specific guide was deliberate as many players can’t be bothered with the time consuming process of leveling Fishing.

Do you have to have Wrath of the lich king to go higher than 375 in cooking? I can’t seem to find a grand master without having that expansion.

Reply

13 Spiph

Yes! The original World of Warcraft only lets you level professions to 300. Burning Crusade added levels 301-375, and Wrath of the Lich King added 376-450. Your profession levels will be restricted to whichever version of the game you are licensed for.

Great guide, but it is also possible to level completely with the fish that you get while leveling fishing, for which the only cost to the player is vendor bought cooking recipes. I was linked to this page from your WoW Fishing Guide, so I just wanted to let you know about that option as well.

If you look higher in the comments the original poster comments on that. There is a link to both the Horde and Alliance guides to power leveling cooking and fishing at the same time. This one is specifically for people who just want to do cooking (though why someone wouldn’t do both together is beyond me).

Just a note that Derek Odds is located in the kitchen of The Hero’s Welcome Inn in Dalaran, not the Silver Enclave.

This is cool! But my question is: Do I need to keep the scrolled recipe to be able to cook that food or what? I have gotten several recipes but I can’t cook them. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

Reply

26 Spiph

If you have recipe scrolls, you need to right-click on them to learn them. You will only be able to do this if your cooking level is high enough for the scroll you wish to learn.

i thought this guide was quite awesome, but not too useful to highlevel characters but otherwise i think it helped a loads of people and most of your guides are very good indeed. keep this on going and maybe give information about your WoW character if you want to enjoy fame. but as i said at first – nice guide!!!!

How can I unlearn a secondary skill. I want to unlearn cooking or first aid so i can train in herbalism. Could you tell me how i can do this

Thanks

Reply

32 Spiph

You can’t unlearn a secondary skill. Primary skills and Secondary skills are separate. You can train a maximum of 2 Primary skills. Herbalism is a Primary skill. If you wish to learn a new Primary skill and are not able to, then it means you have already taken 2 Primary skills. You will need to unlearn one of these in order to take a new one such as Herbalism.
