This WoW guide (up-to-date for patch 3.3) will cover training your Alchemy levels from 1 to 450 and what to make while leveling Alchemy in World of Warcraft. Alchemy is a primary profession (of which you can only choose two at any point in the game) and allows your character to create elixirs, oils and potions. Alchemy complements the Herbalism profession very well, as Herbalism can provide many of the raw materials required for Alchemy. This guide focuses on making the training path easier by using recipes that can be learned from Alchemy trainers and recipes with the most easily obtained materials. It also looks to make the items that will prove most cost effective at each stage. Unless stated otherwise, all the recipes used in this guide can be purchased from a Alchemy trainer of appropriate level.
Alchemy Research
After reaching level 400 it is possible for players to learn and perform Northrend Alchemy Research to discover new Alchemy recipes. Alchemy Research has a cooldown of 3 days, that is, it can only be performed once every 3 days.

For elixirs complete the Master of Elixirs quest available from Lorokeem in Lower City, Shattrath
For transmutes complete the Master of Transmutation quest available from Zarevhi in the Stormspine, Netherstorm
I hoped you found this WoW Alchemy Leveling Guide useful and that it has helped you on your way to level 450. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

i think i have a long ways to go
Great guide. Thanks for compiling it. Currently at 431 and counting…
I think this is an excellent guide! It help alot! thanks.
Thanks I need this to get a good grip on this.
This turned out to work quite well. Thank you for the map links ,keeping this page next to me on myPSP while playing WoW.
Thanks for compiling the info really appreciating the smoth lvling of this profession with the advantages of having a potion to pop up at any time. One question what would be best specialisation? Is transmute still worthwhile?
Specialization just gives the chance to make 0-3 extra items when you craft something you are specialized at. With a 20 hour cooldown on transmutes, it can be a bonus to get extras, but there is no guarantee and you could get no extras. In my experience, many people choose elixirs which allows them to produce greater numbers and increase their gold profits at the Auction House.
Do u know if one of them works for the FLASKS???? or is it just for mats in BC
The Elixir Specialization works with flasks.
Is it possible to change your specialization?
Yes! You need to return to trainer/quest giver of your current specialization and pay (150G last time I checked) to drop your current specialization, then complete the quest for the new specialization.
Hey I really appreciated this, it’s my first trade skill that I’ve gotten to at least Artisan.
Thanks for the guide, it helped a LOT. I would like to add something
From 375 —–> 390 cheapest and easiest way to lvl up is making Pygmy Oil which you can make with the fish you get from fishing dailies or fished almost all over northerned. Even if you dont have any alts with fishing its still dead cheap on AH.
Can I get some help please? I have reached 405 in Alchemy and am finding it difficult to move on. Every time I get some new recipes they are orange for the first few pots/elixirs then they and everything below them turn gray.
How can I move on when i don’t have anything to work with? Is there something I have missed or what am I doing wrong? Very frustrating would asppreciate any help or comments.
Many thanks
I have added a note in the guide about Northrend Alchemy Research. Many of the recipes above level 400 are only available through this discovery method.
I am confused about flasks. I have reached level 350 and can’t make flasks. Where in the process does this choice come up and can it be changed once made?
The flask recipes available at level 350 are either drops from dungeon/raid mobs or require reputation with a specific faction to purchase. Some additional flasks made available in the Burning Crusade expansion (requiring level 375 to craft) are only available through discovery, that is, there is a small random chance that when crafting another potion, elixir, flask or transmute from the Burning Crusade expansion, you will discover a new flask recipe.
Thanks for leaving this. This guide really helped me figure out which profession I wanted to do!
Sometimes when i craft potions or elixirs, and i look in my bags there are flasks i cant make cause i dont have the recipes. But still they are there after i make a lots of potions and elixirs. Is this a random extra?
I was wondering if all the stockpiling of herbs was worth the effort. With your guide, I was able to fly through the leveling! Thanks!
What an excellent resource! Your guides are outstanding and well put together. Your organization is stellar. I wish every guide site out there had your level of detail. Now, I probably won’t need the others!
Thanks.
I am leveling up an alchemist.
If I choose one specialization, like elixirs, will I still be able to make potions or do transmutations? Will I be limited to doing elixir only?
You will still be able to make potions and do transmutes. Your specialization gives you a chance to craft extra items.
Where do I find fire oil and the other thing in need for the other oil
How do I learn another specilization? ex Potion Master to Transmutes
very good guide m8, thanks for taking the time to help everyone out.

Hey mate, the one who wrote this, I can only thank you very much of making this guide, I’m totally satisfied, and I will gladly send you some money in-game if you’ve got an account. Again, thank you to make this guide. Been following Alch + JC guide and it was incredibly cheap. Cheers pal. Keep it going.
