WoW Midsummer Fire Festival

by Spiph

This guide is about the Midsummer Fire Fesitval, which is a seasonal event that runs from June 21st to July 4th in the World of Warcraft. Bonfires are lit all across Azeroth to celebrate the hottest months of the year. Characters of all levels can join in the celebration by completing quests and visiting the flames around the world, which in turn will reward them with gold and experience, as well as Burning Blossoms. Burning Blossoms are the currency of the festival and can be used to purchase unique rewards from a Midsummer Merchant/Supplier during the festival.

Dancing Around the Ribbon Pole
At each bonfire you will find a ribbon pole. When you click on the ribbon and dance around it, you will receive a 3 minute buff that provides a 10% experience increase when killing monsters. This is stackable up to 60 minutes, and each 3 minutes is rewarded for 3 seconds spent dancing round the ribbon pole. Additionally, if you collect enough Burning Blossoms to purchase all three pieces of the Midsummer Reveler set, namely the Mantle of the Festival Fire, Vestment of Summer and Sandals of Summer, you can earn the Burning Hot Pole Dance achievement by dancing around the ribbon pole for a full minute while wearing the garments.

Torch Tossing
This quest is only available from a Master Flame/Fire Eater next to the bonfires in the capital cities. For this quest you will receive a stack of torches that need to be thrown at one of five braziers. You need to be standing close enough to the bonfire in order to light the torches. Throw the torches at the brazier that currently has a mark above it. You will need to hit 8 braziers correctly within a minute to complete the quest. The follow up quest More Torch Tossing, which is available as a daily quest during the festival, requires you to hit 20 braziers in 2 minutes. Both quests, reward you with gold and experience according to your level as well as 5 Burning Blossoms.

Torch Catching
This quest is also only available from a Master Flame/Fire Eater next to the bonfires in the capital cities. For this quest you will receive a torch that needs to be lit, then thrown and the air and caught. You need to be standing close enough to the bonfire in order to light the torch initially. The easiest way to complete this quest is to change you view to be directly above your character and zoom out as far as possible – also make sure your video settings have shadows enabled. Right-click on a torch to light it and toss it up initially and then follow the torch’s shadow so that your character is beneath it when it lands. As soon as you catch the torch it will be tossed up again, and you need to keep following the shadow in order to catch it. You will need to catch a torch 4 times in a row to complete the quest. The follow quest More Torch Catching, which is available as a daily quest during the festival, requires you to catch 10 torches in a row. Both quests, reward you with gold and experience according to your level as well as 10 Burning Blossoms.

Torch Juggler
The Torch Juggler achievement that can only be earned by juggling torches in Dalaran. To earn the achievement you will need to purchase Juggling Torches from a Midsummer vendor, and then juggle them 40 times in 15 seconds. Some people have had success with only 10 torches, but most folks find this easiest to achieve with 15 torches. Set the torches to a hotkey and then target the ground below your character to juggle them in place.

Honor the Flame
Speak to the Flame Keeper at each bonfire for your faction to complete this quest – the bonfires in capital cities don’t offer this quest. For each Flame Keeper you speak to, you will be rewarded with gold and experience according to your level as well as 5 Burning Blossoms. I have seen some reports that suggest you can only complete this quest once per bonfire location, but while I was online last night I noticed I was able to repeat this quest at locations I had previously visited the day before. If you successfully Honor the Flame at all bonfire locations on a continent, you can earn one of the following achievements,

Flame Keeper of Eastern Kingdoms or Flame Warden of Eastern Kingdoms
Flame Keeper of Kalimdor or Flame Warden of Kalimdor
Flame Keeper of Outland or Flame Warden of Outland

If you earn all 3 of the above achievements, you will also earn the achievement The Fires of Azeroth or The Fires of Azeroth.

Desecrate the Flame
This quest requires you to visit each of the opposing factions bonfires, in order to put the fire out, by right-clicking on it – the bonfires in capital cities don’t offer this quest. The action of desecrating an opposing factions bonfire will flag you character a for PvP for 5 minutes. For each bonfire that you desecrate, you will be rewarded with gold and experience according to your level as well as 10 Burning Blossoms. If you successfully Desecrate the Flame at all bonfire locations on a continent, you can earn one of the following achievements,

Extinguishing Eastern Kingdoms or Extinguishing Eastern Kingdoms
Extinguishing Kalimdor or Extinguishing Kalimdor
Extinguishing Outland or Extinguishing Outland

If you earn all 3 of the above achievements, you will also earn the achievement Desecration of the Alliance or Desecration of the Horde.

Stealing [Capital City] Flame
Level 50 characters and above can complete quests to steal some of the bonfire flame from the capital cities of the opposing faction. For each flame that you steal you will be awarded experience as well as 25 Burning Blossoms. If you successfully steal all 4 flames from the opposing faction’s capital cities, you can earn the achievement King of the Fire Festival by completing the quest A Thief’s Reward, available from a Loremaster/Talespinner in one of your own faction’s capital cities.

Twilight Quests
This daily series of quests starts with the quest Unusual Activity, available from an Earthen Ring Elder near the bonfires in the capital cities. It requires you to travel to Zoram Strand, Ashenvale. The quest series ultimately leads to the killing of a level appropriate mob, and rewards you with gold and experience, as well as 10 Burning Blossoms. If your character is level 65 or above, you will be offered a second series of quests that starts with quest Ahune, the Frost Lord. It requires you to travel to the Slave Pens of Coilfang Reservoir, Zangamarsh. When you summon and kill Ahune he drops an assortment of level 70 epic quality loot. Killing Ahune will also earn the achievement Ice the Frost Lord.

Flame Keeper/Flame Warden
The Flame Keeper or The Flame Warden achievements are earned only after the completion of every other achievement mentioned above for your faction.
